Job Description

You’ll manage a small team of program implementers as well as a larger team of part-time LCIs and bike valets. Program work is mainly funded through grants and contracts. You will oversee the execution of current contracts and help prospect for new funding sources that provide the team flexibility and freedom to stay focused on the organizational goals. Specifically, the person in this role would: ● Position the organization as a thought leader in bike programming in Silicon Valley. Have knowledge and expertise in effective behavior change techniques and specifically biking programs. ● Grants/contract management o Write grant and contract proposals that make clear the importance of bike programs and connect metrics and outcomes to the funding available. o Negotiate contracts and invoice/report to funding agencies o Coordinate and manage deliverables under different grants and contracts and creates a schedule of programs with the team. ● Staff Management o Manage a team of 3+ staff as well as temporary employees and volunteers – have regular check in meetings, approve timesheets, conduct annual reviews, etc. o Train staff, modeling skills and processes that help people make meaningful behavior change. o Be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and retention of program staff needed to accomplish organizational goals. o Make decisions about staffing for projects and programs, matching skills with tasks. ● Manage and oversee the team budget, along with budgets under different grants and contracts. ● Manage all aspects of bike programming including classes and rides, guiding the team to be able to coordinate and deliver the same. Work with the team to create and coordinate a squad of part-time employees and volunteers to deliver SVBC programs. Works with the team to see how program work can support or intersect with other org-wide departments and goals. ● Step in to lead program work when necessary. ● Oversee our signature event, Bike To Wherever Days/Bike Month - With partners from across the 9 county Bay Area and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, inspire residents throughout the region to pledge to ride and try biking to everyday destinations. Qualifications ● A passion for SVBC’s mission to build healthy and just communities. ● Minimum of five years of experience teaching and leading bike programs such as bike-education classes or fun rides and more. ● Management experience and demonstrable success with inspiring staff and volunteers to joyfully accomplish great things. ● Take very seriously the priority SVBC places on being welcoming of all types of people, all ages, abilities, cultural groups, economic status, and sexual orientation.

Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) is a non-profit membership-based organization founded in 1993 that seeks to build healthy and just communities. We’re proud of the extraordinary impact we’ve had over the past ten years in improving local infrastructure and normalizing bicycling for transportation in San Mateo & Santa Clara Counties.
