The Mayfair Coordinator functions as a community organizer and develops strong organizing campaigns and leadership in the predominantly immigrant/Xicanx community amongst neighborhood residents, youth, and parents with children in the Alum Rock School/East Side Union District. The Mayfair Coordinator works under the SOMOS Mayfair Community Organizing Department, whose purpose is to challenge systems and build grassroots campaigns to end injustice and shift power, norms, and resources back towards the residents of Mayfair and East San Jose.

The Mayfair Coordinator reports directly to SOMOS Mayfair’s Community Organizing Manager and works alongside a team to develop strategies for authentic community decision-making, craft immediate and long-term solutions/programs, and foster a spirit of hope and change amongst neighborhood residents, youth, and parents with children. The Mayfair Coordinator will work with the Community Organizing Program Manager to execute organizing strategies that will have an immediate impact on community leadership and Platform policy change across Mayfair and East San Jose. The Coordinator will be responsible for building regional alliances/partnerships, coalitions, and working with stakeholders, including the Si Se Puede Collective partners to increase community voice, decision making, and advance campaigns.

The Coordinator will work with other coordinators in the Community Organizing Department to successfully lead campaigns centering: Economic Justice, Community well-being, Housing Rights, and other advocacy issues relevant to SOMOS Mayfair.

Specifically, this position will focus on coordinating SOMOS Mayfair’s Jovenes Activos Program and will organize and develop Raza/Xicanx youth leadership in the Alum Rock School/East Side Union District regions. The Jovenes Activos Coordinator will facilitate solution-based discussions around multi-generational challenges and support the development of community strategies to develop effective organizing campaigns led by youth. The Mayfair Jovenes Activos Coordinator builds organizational power and supports a thriving and vibrant Mayfair by building a robust base of Raza-Xicanx youth leaders organizing for community change. The Mayfair Jovenes Activos Coordinator will work with other organizers to build a bridge between youth and adults interested in organizing for justice.
